How Do We Support Mentees?

We provide Exclusive Online Sessions each term run by education leaders.

Within these sessions, experienced mentors, mentees, and school leaders come together to share insights, stories, and strategies for success.

These sessions provide invaluable guidance to ensure you get the full benefit of your mentorship journey Every session drives self awareness, growth and success.

Mentees also gain the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and network with fellow mentees, building a supportive community.

Steph Gomaa - Pastoral, London School, Qatar

Journeys & Vulnerability – Celebrating Our Greatest Strengths.

Steph has over twenty years of experience in education, leadership, enrichment and professional development.  She has worked in Middle and Senior Leadership roles across the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. With a Level 7 coaching qualification alongside her leadership experience, she was able to speak to mentees about the importance of self awareness and openness to reflective practise.  Steph asked attendees some tough questions and was able to articulate and promote the need for dedicated, prioritised and safeguarded  time for thought.

FAQs For Mentees

  • 1. What is the time commitment?

We recommend one session every 4-6 weeks, lasting between 40 minutes and 1 hour.  Ultimately you can meet how often you and your mentor are available.  Some pairings meet every 2 weeks, others once per half term.  Agreeing this will be one of the first things you will need to agree with your assigned mentor.

  • 2. How are mentors and mentees matched?

Mentors and mentees are matched based on factors such as experience, life position, cultural diversity, and intersectionality. Our goal is to find the best fit possible, and if no match is found immediately, we will continue searching.

  • 3. What if the mentor-mentee relationship isn’t working?

Relationships take time to build, so we suggest giving the partnership 3-5 sessions to develop. If you still feel it’s not working, you can reach out to The Mentorship Hub team for support, and they will help facilitate a respectful exit.

  • 4. How should I prepare for my mentorship sessions?

    - Take the lead in your mentorship by preparing beforehand. Reflect on what you’d like to discuss.

    - Stay focused during your sessions by removing distractions (turn off notifications).

    - Be open to answering challenging questions that push your thinking.

    - Make time for your sessions, stick to your scheduled meetings, and prioritize your personal growth.

  • 5. Who should I contact if I have concerns?

If you have any concerns about your mentor or the mentorship process, you can contact The Mentorship Hub team for confidential support.

  • 6. How is confidentiality maintained?

All participants are required to commit to a confidentiality agreement. If you believe confidentiality has been broken, please notify The Mentorship Hub team immediately for support.

  • 7. Is there a specific structure for mentorship sessions?

Mentorship sessions are designed to be natural conversations. While there’s no set structure, it’s helpful to reflect on your achievements and challenges before each session. Keeping a journal can also help guide your discussions.

  • 8. How much control do I have over the sessions?

As the mentee, you are in control of the sessions. Your mentor is there to support and guide you, but the topics and direction of the conversations are driven by you.

  • 9. Can I still have a mentor if I’m not aiming for a leadership position?

Absolutely! Mentorship is not just about leadership—it’s about personal growth. The goal is to help you become a better version of yourself, regardless of your current role.

  • 10. What additional support is available?

The Mentorship Hub offers 3 online sessions throughout the academic year (northern hemisphere school calendar) where mentees can share experiences and learn from one another. Additionally, The Mentorship Hub team is available via email for any questions or concerns.

  • 11.What if you can’t find me a mentor match?

We are constantly recruiting new mentors and we will keep looking for a match for any mentees.  However, we do not guarantee a match.  We are committed to only making pairings where we believe, based on information shared, that the partnership will be fruitful.  If, after a period of time looking, we still cannot find you a mentor we will actively reach out through our networks to find one who suits you.  We may also ask for a call with you to talk about your needs further, and try to discover more about you in an effort to find your perfect match..

  • 12. What kind of things can a mentor help me with?

A mentor can help you with career development by offering guidance on setting and achieving goals, improving leadership and communication skills, and expanding your professional network. They can also assist with work-life balance, time management, and navigating challenges in your current role. Additionally, mentors provide support in personal growth, raising self awareness,  job search strategies, and decisions about further education or professional certifications. They can also offer advice, such as classroom management and career advancement within the field.

Sometimes it’s just good to talk!

  • 13. What if I change my mind after registering or matching?

If you're thinking of changing your mind due to scheduling conflicts or because you haven't yet bonded with your mentor, it's important to remember that mentoring relationships often take time to develop. Building trust and rapport can take a few sessions, so giving it more time can be beneficial. Also, considerable effort goes into hand-picking and matching mentors, and as the mentors volunteer their time, it's important to be respectful of that commitment. While you can opt out, please note that there are no refunds, and changing your mind prematurely could mean losing the opportunity to benefit fully from the relationship. It's best to stick with it unless there are significant issues beyond just time or early uncertainty.  However, we can be flexible in supporting you so please do make email contact with us to talk this through.
